Doctor in Informatics, industrial engineer and professor of the Department of Statistics and Operations Research at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. He is the director and founder of inLab FIB. Its main areas of research are modeling and simulation, social simulation, internet and information systems. He is the author of a large number of research articles and other publications presented at international conferences and has collaborated in numerous research and innovation projects for the European Union and different companies and institutions.
Between the years 1998 and 2004 he was dean of the Faculty of Computer Science of Barcelona. In addition, he served as vice president of university policy at the UPC (2006-2011) with responsibility for strategic projects such as the definition of new university governance models, the reformulation of the departmental structures of the university or the design and promotion of the new Diagonal- Besòs in Barcelona. He has also been responsible for the ICT policies of the UPC.
He is currently co-director of LogiSim (Logistics Systems Simulation Center) and coordinates Severo Ochoa's Excellence Program at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS).
